{ Lauren + Ryu :: Langham Huntington Wedding }

This gorgeous wedding was captured by Kari Kochar Photography. Kari and I work together quite frequently at the Langham Huntington. Its always so much fun working with her and seeing the end results.

Vendor Spotlight::: DeBois Entertainment

Over the years we have the pleasure of working with many talented entertainment companies. I am excited to share one of our favorites- DeBois Entertainment. Their bands have such fantastic energy, when they are present, the crowd is engaged. My clients are always more than thrilled with this company. And put a cherry on top, they are so pleasant to work with and professional too. For their band, they have a designated person who is a MC, which is great for the announcements that you will need to make to welcome your guests and major moments to be announced.

You can listen to some of their wedding bands. But they are even better LIVE!

Rainy Weddings

With all this rain pouring in Southern California, I couldn't help but wonder how many couples had gotten married over the weekend in the rain, which many find to be unfortunate, while many others think otherwise.
There is an old saying that rain on your wedding day is actually a lucky omen, and with some tips and backup plans, you can still enjoy your perfect wedding day in beautiful and refreshing way!

When planning to have an outdoor wedding in the winter and spring seasons, you should always have a contingency plan no matter what.  You can start early by checking an almanac or researching online when the driest times of year are in your area.  If you have a tent outside, consider renting a floor, to prevent guests from waking into a muddy reception area.

If getting married indoors, the rain becomes more of an annoyance than a real problem.  Have plenty of golf umbrellas readily available for guests, family, and bridal party, to shuttle back and forth outside.   Last but not least, if it does end up raining on your wedding day, the best thing to do is grin and accept it and really try to not let it ruin your day.  After all, some of the most beautiful photos and moments come from singing, dancing, and playing in the rain!

A Chalkboard Wedding!

Chalkboards are an adorable and unique way to add personal detail to your wedding!  They can be tied in with your invitations, all the way to placecards, table settings, table numbers, and of course, a number of signs and messages that can be placed all throughout your wedding!

Using them in photobooths for guests to write their own personal messages to the bride and groom are also another fun and popular way to incorporate the look.  Chalkboards are relatively inexpensive as well and can be found in craft stores, thrift stores, and even antique shops.  You can also make a fun do-it-yourself project by taking gorgeous antique frames and putting chalkboard sheets in them for some beautiful one-of-a-kind signs!

Vendor Spotlight:: Kelly Zhang Make Up + Hair Studio

{ Beauty tip for your big day }

- Beauty Touchup Kit -
Wedding days are filled with surprises and some are not so good surprises. That is why every bride should pack an emergency kit for surprise pantyhose holes, loose curls, chipped nails, and Aunt Betty’s makeup that rubbed off on your cheek! Include items like tissues, lipstick, nail polish, bobby pins, dental floss, toothpaste, a hair brush, deodorant, eye drops, and all the makeup that you put on in the morning so you can refresh your look for photos.

- Don’t try Anything New -
Trying a new facial cream, mask, makeup, or acne treatment too close to your wedding day may make your skin break out in a rash. If you want to try a new product on your face start at least six months before the day of your wedding and consult a dermatologist if you don’t already have one.

No new hair style -
Do not try out any new hair colors or cuts in the months leading up to the wedding, You don’t want to try something different and trendy and then hate it leaving you no time to grow it out. Stick to what you know suits you. Also going for the most up to date styles isn’t recommended you don’t want to look back on your photos in ten years time explaining to your kids how it was fashionable at the time.

- Leave the Blemish Be -
If you have a problem pimple a few days before the wedding or even the night before leave it be. Trying to pop it may make it even worse. I know that to be true for myself when I try to get rid of some; They get bigger and leave a red mark on my face.

CAPE Soiree Honors Asians in Entertainment

Fresh Events with actor and honoree, Ken Jeong.

Last week, Fresh Events Company had the privilege of working with CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) to help put together their yearly CAPE Soiree held at the beautiful Vibiana, honoring exceptional individuals who continue to contribute and enrich the entertainment industry.  This year, CAPE's honorees included actor Ken Jeong and President of CBS Entertainment, Nina Tassler.

The event was a glamorous red carpet affair filled with Hollywood celebrities, fabulous awards, live entertainment, cocktails, casino tables, and contemporary eats from restaurants all over Los Angeles.  Fresh Events decided to bring a modern flair to the event by setting up VIP lounge areas for the major sponsors who were able to dine on sushi and drinks while enjoying the awards ceremony in white plush leather sofas.  The evening continued with a fabulous silent auction to help raise money for the organization as well as a photobooth, Pinkberry yogurt, casino, and more!

Things to Consider for Your Wedding

It's definitely a reality that most brides have to deal with a budget for their wedding nowadays.  The most important thing to remember is to focus on YOU, the bride and groom, and what's important to you so you can efficiently spend the right amount of money in the right places, regardless of what friends or family may tell you!

Less is definitely more, whether this means simplifying your floral arrangements to cut costs (after all, flowers don't last forever!), or hiring a DJ versus a band.  While bands are delightful, they can cost up to $10,000 and a great DJ can keep the crowd up on their feet all night!
Cakes are gorgeous, but keep in mind, that after you cut your first piece, the cake gets taken away and sliced for the guests to eat. Consider having a smaller fancy cake, and then getting a sheet cake to cover the rest of your cake slices.

Pictures are another important area to consider. If having tangible memories of the day are very important to you, then don't leave your choice of photographer until the last minute. Booking your photographer a year or more in advance means you'll have a better chance that they'll be available on your wedding, and you'll lock them in at their current rates.

We hope these small tips will be of great help in the coordinating and planning of the biggest day of your life!

Farewell to Fall!

Can you believe it's already December? As we say farewell to fall we here at Fresh Events are reminded of the fresh new ideas we put into our design and decor, like the one pictured here!  We look forward to all of the wonderful holidays coming up and the things around us that inspire our ideas for events.  To get a look like above, simply fill glass vases with colored rocks or stones to anchor the manzanita branches, from where you can hang beautiful jewels, tags, and other fun items.

Happy Fall!

Arlene + Daniel Wedding Featured on Junebug Weddings

We are so excited that one of our weddings is now featured on Junebug Weddings. Check it out. Congrats to Arlene+ Daniel again.

"A modern, urban and ultra-creative approach was used to plan the wedding of Arlene and Danny, and the photos by Twin Lens Images brilliantly capture the fun feeling of the day. After a ceremony in the stunning Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, a movie and tv backlot themed reception took place at Lot 613 in Downtown Los Angeles. Tables were named after the couple's favorite movies, a children's craft area was set up foir the younger guests, and their Filipino and Korean heritages were incorporated in both traditional and fun-loving ways."- Junebug Weddings

Bridal Show. Event Design Ideas

This past weekend, we attended a bridal show and surprisingly there were a lot of great design elements that we came across so we wanted to share with all our fans.

Celebrate This Holiday Season

Since the holidays is a season for celebration and sharing good memories with friends and family, why not throw a holiday themed soiree?

Here are some of our favorite surprising and delightful ideas to incorporate in your upcoming holiday party. Follow these steps to make your party the talk of the town!

• Get the Fireplace Crackling. If you have a fireplace, this is the time to use it!

• Your Signature Tini. Make guests feel like VIPs by greeting guests with a welcome cocktail named after you or your favorite thing and add “–tini” to the end of it. Make the cocktail red or green or holiday colors. You can mix juices from all types of fruits, such as juicy pomegranate or green apples. For non-drinkers, try a coke soda garnished with pomegranate seeds. Delicious and guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser!

• Create Lush, Holiday Inspired Decor. Create beautiful, holiday inspired centerpieces by gathering long tree branches, birch or Manzanita and placing them in a vase for dramatic impact. Collect pine cones from your front yard and place them in a nice big bowl. Have your main centerpiece in the hallway and have note cards and have guests write personal notes and messages on them to attach to the tree. Bundle lots of candles together in a concentrated area to create a festive and beautiful décor.

• Have Fun with a “Hot Cider Bar” or “Hot Cocoa Bar.” This self serve, interactive bar lets guests concoct their own version of the loved and nostalgic hot cider or cocoa. Let guests have fun by adding some spice, brandy, cognac or some other type of spirit. Of course, don’t forget to give them an option of garnishing with star anis, marshmallows or cinnamon sticks!

• Add Drama to Your Table Setting. Holiday is such a colorful season, don’t be shy to experiment with color, textures and materials for your table setting! Why not have luxurious (faux) fur for a table runner? Or how about having mini green apples as placecards set on each plate, each apple with an attached note with the guest’s name?

• Unforgettable Favors. For the women, have colorful pashminas in a straw basket available as favors. Make an endearing sign, “Grab a pashmina and cuddle”. It’s a great favor since Pashminas serve double duty as a favor and to keep warm! For men, think about hiring a cigar roller to make freshly rolled cigars.

• Pool Party during the holidays? If you live in California, it’s likely that you’ll have a pool. A favorite thing to do is to add floating candles in the pool, mixed with floating floral blooms. Candlelight and floating blooms make an evening spent outside magical. If you have the time, compliment the candlelight by adding some string lighting overhead. Make sure to have plenty heaters if you plan to host the event outside.

• A Soundtrack to Complete the Picture. And to top it off, throw on a great soundtrack to complete the party. Mix it up to your genre liking. If you like jazz, play Billie Holiday’s or Etta James. Or crowd favorites like Michael Buble. If you like a more of a modern lounge or laid back soundtrack, try Jose Gonzales, Nick Drake or Zero 7. Rock? Nickel Creek.

And of course, if you want to just enjoy the holiday and leave this to a professional contact Fresh Events Company at (626) 799.8010 or info@FreshEventsCompany.com and they will help you create a spectacular holiday celebration!

Lauren and Ryu Wedding- Rock 'n Roll Same Day Edit

This wedding was held at the Langham, Pasadena. Lauren and Ryu were the perfect couple for Elysium's Rock 'n Roll Same Day Edit- they rehearsed, knew all the lyrics, and incorporated their closest family and friends into their awesome music video! Lauren was a stunning bride, she radiated in her gorgeous gown, fashionable birdcage veil, and blue Bebe shoes and we can't forget Ryu looking pretty sharp himself! They included a traditional Japanese performance into their reception, which was also really cool! Check out this super cute Rock 'n Roll Same Day Edit.

Deputy Commissioner for a Day

Why hire just anyone to perform your marriage ceremony when you can have a close family or friend do it?  Many California counties now allow couples to just do that.  The Registrar/Recorder-County Clerk has a program that allows individuals to be deputized for a day to perform a wedding ceremony.  All it takes are a few simple steps which are listed below:

All those requesting to be deputized should fill out the form provided on the web or send in a letter detailing:
·         the full name of the person to be deputized
·         the telephone number and address to contact that person
·         the name of the parties
·         the date of the wedding
·         the location of the wedding
The letter or application should be mailed in to the address below with a check or money order for $75, made payable to RR/CC, 2 months prior to the wedding. Applications received less than one month prior to the wedding if accepted, will be subject to a $13 expediting fee. Mail the letter or application to:

Deputy Commissioner For A Day
Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk
12400 Imperial Highway
Room 5001A
Norwalk, CA 90650

After confirmation is received, the individual just needs to be sworn in at the office, which can be done through appointments.  Call 562-462-2081 for more information, now go find your own personal deputy to perform your ceremony today!

"So You Just Got Engaged?"

With the holidays coming up, many couples are getting engaged, which means shortly after, comes the first stages of planning a wedding! It may seem like a challenge with so many things to plan and organize, but before contacting wedding vendors and venues, take some time to brainstorm and jot down some ideas that you envision for your big day.

Whether you have a specific "theme" in mind or not, one thing that will help tie everything together throughout the planning process is to decide on your wedding colors - this will of course be influenced by the time of year (a spring garden wedding might inspire green tones while a winter wedding silver or gold), but selecting a color or two that you feel really speaks to you will also help you out with choosing flowers, bridesmaid dresses and decor. You may also want to come up with an overall style idea for your wedding: "simple chic", "eco-friendly", "old hollywood", etc. This will really help narrow down the wide range of wedding ideas out there into something much more manageable.

What’s so great about the internet are the endless resources you can find such as this wedding checklist, which gives you a good breakdown of your planning timeline. As you make your way through all the planning all the way to when you walk down the aisle, remember to have fun with it and don’t feel too restricted with guidelines, but do what feels right!

“The Perfect Pumpkin Martini for your Halloween Party”

It’s October and Halloween is just around the corner! Here are some Pumpkin inspired ways to make sure this is the best Halloween your family and friends have ever had!

Hosting a classy Halloween party and need something delicious to serve to your guests as they mingle in the living room while you slave away in the kitchen? Here’s a recipe for a classic fall drink that will really set the holiday mood for your fabulous party.

Pumpkin Martini

Ingredients:
• 3 oz Infused Spiced Pumpkin Vodka (can also substitute with 2 1/2 oz cinnamon vodka and 1/2 oz Bols Pumpkin Smash Liqueur)
• 1 oz Amaretto
• Toasted pumpkin seeds or Cinnamon for garnish

Preparation:
In a shaker filled with ice, combine all ingredients and stir gently. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and top with toasted pumpkin seeds, or a cinnamon stick and serve!

Décor idea to go with your Pumpkin Martini:
Go one step further and decorate the coffee table or living room area where your guests will be enjoying their Pumpkin Martini’s with this simple décor idea:

Place some decorative pumpkins (or real ones) as small centerpieces along your table. Cake stands, or platters serve as perfect display methods. Adding some fabric fall colored leaves or candles around the pumpkins will also give it that October touch.

Words of Wisdom from the Father of the Groom

At the wedding at Terranea, Rancho Palos Verdes last Saturday, the Groom's father passed down some Words of Wisdom during his welcome speech that I think all future wedding clients can benefit from.

He reviewed his speech with me prior to the wedding and after I heard what he was going to say.. I immediately asked him if it was okay for me to share this with you all. So here it is. Please feel free to forward this to your newly engaged friends and/or family.

He has been happily married for 40 years and here is the secret.

1. COMMITMENT
a. Open your mind- Be open minded about your spouse
b. Compromise- learn to compromise, both can't win all the time
c. Avoid cold war- never have cold war, it doesn't solve any problems

2. CARE
a. Health- take care of your health
b. Finance - take care of your financial health
c. Behavior- be mindful of your behavior

3. COMMON SENSE
a. Complement- remember to complement each other frequently
b. Change- be adaptable to change
c. Appreciation- remember to always appreciate one another

Special thanks to Mr. Chen for sharing his wisdom with us.

More Macarons Please!

While driving through the lovely streets of Beverly Hills last weekend, I finally had the chance to try out Paulette’s, a delightful little macaron shop just past all of the ritzy shops. The vivid hues of their unique macarons are not only beautiful to look at, but so delicious too, and the packaging is so adorable. Owner Paulette Koumetz has definitely perfect the art of the macaron! These perfect cookies would make a great addition to any wedding or special event as a dessert, favor, or even décor. You can even order online and request overnight shipping and in-store pickup as well. Visit www.paulettemacarons.com for more information and their full list of flavors!

Bride and Groom’s Best Friend

When it comes to your special day, you want to include your closest friends and family, so why not get Fido involved as well? Add your furry best friend to your processional and the festivities of the day is fun, personal, and create many great photo moments. Be sure to double-check with your venue to see if they will allow pets to be on the property and also ensure that a close friend or family will be willing to watch over your furry friend with plenty of food, water, and even a place for them to be kept while you dance the night away.

Pretty in Pink

I love when brides are not afraid to break tradition by doing something, or in this case, wearing something that they want, like wearing these beautiful PINK wedding dresses! This is such a fun way to incorporate a favorite color or really show your cool, creative, and even daring personality. I say pink definitely stands out just as much as a white dress!

{ Angelina + David :: Dazzling Chandelier }

Recently we planned and designed a remarkable wedding all under two months. Yes, for those of you who have your mouths wide open due to shock.. it is possible. The wedding took place at the client’s beautiful home in Arcadia, CA. We completely transformed the place. We build a pool plank over the pool for the ceremony to add drama and flair. Low floral hedges and multiple pillar candles lining the edges of the bridge. More hurricanes filed with pillar candles and rose petals were placed around the perimeter of the pool. Four 6' Tall candelabras placed on the corners of the pool. As the string quartet started to play the Wedding March, the bride walked down the aisle in a gorgeous designer gown.

The reception area sits partially draped tents with crystal chandeliers stood over the platinum covered tables. In the center of the reception was a clean and modern white dance floor surrounded by lounge sets. The head table was embellished with gorgeous three-foot tall floral pieces and flood with candles. Florals were everywhere. Each corner there is a striking element that just keeps your eyes entertained. Next to the head table was five-tiered cupcake display. No one can ever imagine that this space was just a regular tennis court a day ago. Even the tennis coach that was a guest at the wedding was amazed how we have transformed the space. The guests enjoyed a scrumptious three course meal of mozzarella and tomato salad, sea bass and short ribs, and a variety of mini dessert shots. As the evening went on, everyone danced the night away to a live band playing upbeat jazz and popular music.

It was incredibly gratifying when the client told us that this wedding had exceeded their expectations and asked me to send them some more business cards because so many of their guests were asking who planned the wedding.

{ Mary + JR :: Malibu Wedding }

It was a warm summer day with cool light breezes in the hills of Malibu, perfect for a summer wedding. The ceremony and reception took place at a private estate. Most of the guests traveled from far away to come to sunny California to witness the matrimony of Mary and JR. It was a small intimate wedding filled with so much love and joy. The color palette was fresh green and plum, which blend perfectly with the beautiful scenery that the Malibu hills had to offer.

Mary walked down the grassy aisle wearing a stunning vintage wedding dress looking simply gorgeous! JR watched his beautiful bride to be with a big smile on his face as she approached him. He also looked handsome with his khaki suit and purple tie. During the ceremony, JR’s daughter performed on her cello for the bride, groom, and guests. I do’s were exchanged and the couple walked away hand in hand.

After the ceremony guest were escorted to the pool and lounge area where tasty hors d’oeuvre were passed around and the bar was open and ready to start mixing, shaking, and stirring. Keeping true with the color scheme guests were pleasantly surprised to find their escort cards pinned on plump smooth green limes. Mary and JR made their grand entrance with their loyal dog behind them; we didn’t even have to cue the dog, he knew exactly where to go and when, amazing right?

The Bride and Groom did not go with the traditional tiered towering cake; instead they had three separate cakes- Lemon, Red Velvet, and Dolce.

The night sky was adorned with bistro lighting we set up over the reception and dance area. Guests danced the night away. Thank goodness for baby Jack who kicked off the dance with his all time favorite Usher song- “ OMG“. The candy station was a bit hit with the kids and even adults. Classics candy from Sour Gummy Worms, Rock Lollipops, to Peanut M&M’s were all present.

The bride and groom were sent off by their beloved friends waving shinning sparklers, it was a magical sight to see and a perfect way to end a perfect day!
